Happy 2010

Happy New Year everyone!!!  To help celebrate the New Year I created this card using the free digital stamp from Marina over at The Greeting Farm.

The card base is Brocade Blue cardstock layered with a slightly smaller piece of CTMH Sweet Home patterned paper.  Next I cut a strip of Chocolate Chip cardstock and wrapped Divine Woven Ribbon around the lower end and tied a knot in front before attaching to the card base.

The image was printed on PTI White using my HP Officejet J5780 then colored in using my new copic markers!  Cheers.. to copic markers!!!  What a super fun way to bring in the New Year!!!  The image was layered on to a slightly larger piece of Brocade Blue cardstock and adhered to the card base using Scotch Foam Mounting Tape.

That's it... simple but so-o-o-o-o cute!

Hope you have fun celebrating the New Year!!!

Snow Wonderful

With the huge snow storm we had over the weekend we actually ended up celebrating Christmas yesterday so my days seem a little off.  On the bright side though, I was able to spend lots of time in my craft room over the long holiday weekend.  I'm in love with snowmen which means I have a ton of snowman stamps and totally let go of my addiction this past weekend.  That means I'll be posting a lot of snowman cards over the next couple of weeks... here is the first of many more to come.

This card was inspired by the Sketch and Stash Challenge 25.  Some time ago I die cut these huge snowflakes at Archivers and cut one in half to use on this card.  The card base is Chocolate Chip layered with a slightly smaller piece of Whisper White cardstock then Snowfall Ice Blue patterned paper.  Half of the die cut snowflake was adhered on the left side of the card base aligned with the Whisper White cardstock. Next I wrapped Brown Grosgrain Ribbon around the card base and tied a knot in front.

The image was stamped in Chocolate Chip on Whisper White using the Snow Wonderful stamp set and colored in using Baja Breeze ink and a blender pen.  The nose was colored in using the Apricot Appeal Stampin' Write Marker.  I paper pierced the edges of the Whisper White cardstock and layered the image on to a slightly larger piece of Chocolate Chip cardstock before attaching to the card base with Scotch Foam Mounting Tape.

The sentiment was stamped in Chocolate Chip on Whisper White cardstock also using the Snow Wonderful stamp set.  I rounded the corners on one end and punched a small hole to thread the DMC White through.  Using a large sewing needle I then threaded the DMC White through the knot on the Brown Grosgrain Ribbon and tied a bow in front.  To finish off the card I added several Kaiser Rhinestones along the huge snowflake and placed one in each corner of the image.

Hope you have a great week!

Deck The Halls

Ho, Ho, Ho...Merry Christmas!!!  We originally had planned to spend the day with my in-laws in the traditional holiday fashion... snacking on yummy food and playing lots of card games but the winter storm we are getting sure changed that in a hurry.  So, we are languishing away at home today watching the beautiful snow fall!!!  We are thinking to go outside this afternoon and see how big of a snowman we can make.  At the moment my husband and the cats are napping so I thought I would pop in and share the Christmas card I sent to the family this year!

The card base is a half sheet of Riding Hood Red cardstock folded in half. I punched the corners of a slightly smaller piece of Starlight patterned paper from the BasicGrey Dasher collection before adhering it to the card base. The shadow layer is a strip of Snowfall Ice Blue patterned paper layered on to a slightly larger piece of Riding Hood Red cardstock.

The image was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on PTI White using the Fluffles Garland Cling Rubber stamp and was colored in using Tombow N75, 076, Copic R29 and Baja Breeze Ink with a Blender Pen then layered on to a slightly larger piece of Riding Hood Red cardstock. The image was attached to the card base with Scotch Foam Mounting Tape.

To embellish the card I stamped pieces of garland in Memento Tuxedo Black on PTI White using the x stamp set then cut them out using paper snips and adhered them to the shadow layer. I added a bow made with dotted red organdy ribbon and to finish off the card I added a small silver brad in each corner of the card base.

Wishing you a joyous holiday season!

Being In The Driver's Seat

This card was created using the Taylored Expressions Sketch Challenge #92. The card is for my nephew's birthday and is traveling all the way to Germany in his honor! Happy Birthday, Eric!!! This summer he stayed with his cousins in North Carolina and while he was there applied for his Learners Permit so I'm hoping this Changito Driver brings back lots of fun memories for him!

The card base is paper pierced Old Olive layered on to a slightly larger piece of Basic Black cardstock. Next I cut out a 3 x 5 1/2 strip of Basic Black cardstock and layered two pieces of Napoleon Marble Green patterned paper, one on each side. The image was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on paper pierced Whisper White using the Changito Driver Cling Mount Stamp and colored in using Tombow and Stampin Write Markers. I wrapped PTI Rustic Jute Button Twine around the card base twice and taped the ends down. To cover up the ends I attached a button embellished with more Rustic Jute Button Twine.

Thanks for stopping by!

Let It Snow

I still haven't put my Christmas tree up yet but I have been listening to all Christmas music lately which has put me in the holiday spirit! This week Crazy 4 Challenges inspired us to make a card with snowmen or snowflakes so I created this card with the leftover patterned paper from my Snowballs card. Both the sentiment and image are from the Hero Arts Let It Snow clear design stamp set.

The card base is Soft Sky cardstock layered with a slightly smaller piece of Grind patterned paper. The sentiment was stamped in Chocolate Chip on a strip of Whisper White cardstock. I punched one edge with the Scallop Dot Border Punch before adhering at the bottom of the card base.

The image was stamped in Chocolate Chip on paper pierced Whisper White using the Let It Snow stamp set then colored in using Soft Sky ink and a blender pen. It was then layered on to a slightly larger piece of Soft Sky cardstock. The hat was also stamped in Chocolate Chip on Whisper White cardstock and colored in using Soft Sky ink and a blender pen then cut out and adhered to the image. To finish off the card I added Rhinestones along the scallop border.

Wishing you a beautiful holiday season!

A Rose In Winter

Hello again, hope you're having a great weekend! I'm popping in to wish my husband's oldest brother and his wife a Happy Anniversary! Happy Anniversary, Paul and Chia!!! And yes, you've seen this patterned paper a couple times now already!!! Can you tell how much I love it!

Today's card base is paper pierced Angel cardstock. Next I punched the corners of a piece of Kaiser Plush Empress Sophisticated patterned paper (try saying that 10 times real fast!) and layered it on to a slightly larger piece of Gypsy Rose cardstock. In each corner I placed a Pewter Kaiser Pearl then I wrapped dotted organdy ribbon around it before attaching to the Angel card base.

The image was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on paper pierced Whisper White cardstock using the Hero Arts Special Moments cling mount stamp and was colored in using Tombow and Stampin Write Markers. This was then layered on to a slightly larger piece of Gypsy Rose cardstock. Using a 2-Way Glue Pen I added some (OK, a lot) of Dazzling Diamonds Glitter. The image was attached to the card base using Scotch Foam Mounting tape to raise it up a bit and give the card some depth. To finish off the card I added a bow at the base of the flower stem.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend!

A Bouquet Of Tulips

Hi everyone!  Today I'm sharing the card I sent my husband's brother and his wife for their wedding anniversary!  Happy Anniversary, Dave and Annette!!!  The card base is Basic Black layered with a slightly smaller piece of dotted Regal Rose patterned paper from the Stampin Up Patterns Pack II.  Next I layered paper pierced Whisper White on to a slightly larger piece of Basic Black.  I wrapped So Saffron Grosgrain Ribbon around it and tied a knot in front before centering on the card base.

The stem and leaves were stamped in Wild Wasabi on Whisper White using the Bodacious Bouquet stamp set then cut out and arranged on the card base.  The stems were slid underneath the ribbon so they would start at the bottom of the center piece.  The flowers were stamped in So Saffron on Whisper White cardstock also using the Bodacious Bouquet stamp set then cut out and placed at the top of the stem and leaves.  I used mounting tape to attach the flowers so they would be raised up and give the card more depth.  To finish off the card I added some rhinestones at the center of the flowers.

Wishing you a beautiful day!

Curious Cat

This month Stamps R Us hosted their first blog group challenge. To gets things started I challenged the group to create a card using Mercy Kerin's Sketch Challenge #50. Here is the card I made using the sketch. The card reminds me of spring and considering we are expecting our first big snow storm of the season here today it makes me feel as though I should be creating winter cards instead!

The card base is a half sheet of Certainly Celery cardstock folded in half. Next I cut a strip of Blush Blossom cardstock and punched it using the Martha Stewart Floral Lace border punch. Over the strip I placed a piece of Petal Patch Designer Series Paper layered on a slightly larger piece of Whisper White cardstock. The next layer is also Petal Patch DSP layered on Whisper White cardstock. Before attaching it though I wrapped Certainly Celery Grosgrain Ribbon around it and tied a knot in front.

The image was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on Whisper White cardstock using the Flower Fluffles stamp and colored in using Stampin Write Markers. Using my Creative Memories Circle Cutting System I cut out the image and a slightly larger piece of Blush Blossom cardstock. To finish off the card I attached two large Chocolate Kaiser Pearls in the upper right corner and several small ones along the lace border.

Hope you enjoyed today's card creation!

Lovely In Bloom

I've been feeling low on mojo all week but think it's starting to come back now.  This card was created using the Taylored Expressions Sketch Challenge #73. I love this sketch because the layout is quick and easy yet looks very lovely and elegant!
The card base is Ruby Red layered with a slightly smaller piece of Kraft patterned paper from the Stampin' Up Patterns Pack. Next I cut a strip of Basic Black cardstock and wrapped White Grosgrain Ribbon around it and tied a knot in front. I must say I'm impressed with this knot... they normally don't turn out so well!

The shadow layer is paper pierced Ruby Red cardstock with three small black brads. The image was stamped in Ruby Red on Whisper White using the Garden Silhouettes stamp set and layered onto a slightly larger piece of Basic Black cardstock. The sentiment was also stamped in Basic Black.

Hope you're having a great week!

Pretty As A Flower

Hope everyone was able to get together with family and friends this Thanksgiving! We had a wonderful time and are still enjoying leftover turkey and fixings! So far this weekend I've been able to spend some time in my craft room making cards for OWH. Can't wait to get them uploaded to share with everyone!

In the meantime, this is a card I made for my first shipment of cards to OWH. The layout is from Sweet 'n Sassy Sketch Challenge 17. The card base is Bravo Burgundy layered with a slightly smaller piece of paper pierced Angel cardstock. The next layer is Bravo Burgundy cardstock layered with a slightly smaller piece of paper pierced KaiserCraft Plush Empress Sophisticated patterned paper.

The circles were punched out after stamping Pale Plum on Whisper White cardstock using the Priceless stamp set. The flowers were stamped in Bravo Burgundy on Whisper White cardstock also using the Priceless stamp set then cut out and adhered over the flower image on the circles. At the center of each flower is a small Pewter Kaiser Pearl. Next I cut a strip of Bravo Burgundy cardstock and punched one side using the Eyelet Border Punch. I wrapped White Grosgrain ribbon around it and attached a bow in the front before adhering to the bottom of the card.

Hope you have a great week!

It's Turkey Time!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!  We are headed to my mother-in-laws today for a wonderful turkey dinner and some card games.  Later on we will have pumpkin pie, she makes the best!!  I'm so looking forward to another long weekend.  I don't do the Black Friday thing but have heard there may be some really good deals online so I'll have to check that out.

I think I'm ready to admit that I'm totally addicted to sketches. This sketch is from the High Hopes Sketch Challenge 52. The card base is Really Rust layered with a slightly smaller piece of Harvest ABC's patterned paper on top of which I attached a strip of paper pierced Handsome Hunter cardstock. The shadow layer is a strip of Really Rust layered with a slightly smaller piece of Spicy Circles patterned paper.

The image was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on PTI White using the High Hopes Turkey stamp and colored in using Stampin Write Markers. The corners were punched with the Ticket Corner Punch and small copper brads attached in each corner before adhering to a slightly larger pice of Really Rust cardstock. To finish off the card I added some colorful paper flowers with a medium copper brad in the center.

Hope you have a wonderful day!

Gobble, Gobble!!!

Today's card was created using the A Spoon Full Of Sugar sketch challenge #74. I followed the sketch pretty well except I swapped out the text for a pretty white bow and button! The card base is Really Rust layered with a slightly smaller piece of Handsome Hunter cardstock.

The next layer looks like it is all one piece but it is really four square pieces of Spicy Circles patterned paper. The image was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on PTI White using the High Hopes Turkey stamp and colored in using Stampin Write Markers.

The corners were punched with the Ticket Corner Punch and a small copper brad added to each corner before layering onto a slightly larger piece of Handsome Hunter then Really Rust cardstock. The bow is PTI 3/8" Fresh Snow Topnotch Twill. I tied some DMC White through the button holes before attaching it on the bow. It is hard to tell in this photo but the button has a really pretty floral print on it.

Hope you have marvelous day!

OWH Veterans Day Bloghop

Hi everyone! Welcome to the Operation Write Home Veterans Day Bloghop!! If you arrived here from Peggysue's Blog, Roses By My Window, then you are in the right place but if you've just happened along you will want to grab your favorite beverage then head on over to the Homefront Blog so you can start from the beginning!

For those of you who don't already know, Operation Write Home supports our nation's armed forces by sending blank handmade greeting cards for them to write home on as well as cards of gratitude to encourage them. So if you are a papercrafter, stamper or scrapbooker and enjoy making greeting cards check out the tips for cardmakers here and you are on your way!

For today's bloghop Operation Write Home challenged the cardmakers to create an "Anyhero" or Patriotic card (with a message inside for a deployed hero) and a Valentine card. For Veterans Day I made a Patriotic card in memory of my husband's grandfather who served in the US Army Air Force during World War II (to view that card scroll down to my previous post). I made this Patriotic card for the Operation Write Home Veterans Day Bloghop in honor of all the heroes out there proudly serving our nation... Thanks to all of you for your strength and courage in serving and protecting our nation!!!

Card details... the Patriotic card base is Real Red layered with slightly smaller pieces of Ballet Blue then Basic Black cardstock. The flag was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on PTI White using the God Bless America stamp set and colored in using Tombo and Stampin Write Markers. The eagle was also stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on PTI White but was cut out and mounted over the flag to give it the appearance of soaring!!! The sentiment was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on Kraft cardstock and embellished with a small black brad.

Next is the Valentine card I make for the Operation Write Home Veterans Day Bloghop. It is different from my normal style in that I used patterned paper for the main image rather than stamping it. I also couldn't resist using this gold foil glossy cardstock.

Card details... the Valentine card base is Pink Passion layered with a slightly smaller piece of paper pierced gold foil glossy cardstock. Next I attached the strip of patterned paper and the sentiment. The sentiment was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on PTI White cardstock. I rounded the corners using a corner rounder punch. The heart image was cut from a different sheet of Creative Imaginations patterned paper and layered onto a thin piece of cardboard. I rounded the corners and sanded the edges before attaching it to the card base. For embellishments I painted a chipboard flourish with Ashphalt Liquid Acrylic Paint and arranged it on the card nestled under an arrangement of paper flowers. To finish off the card I added a couple small gold brads along the paper strip and one at the center of the flower arrangement.

Well, that's it for me! Hope you've enjoyed my card creations. And now it is truly an honor for me to say that your next stop on this bloghop is the fabulous Sandy Allnock, founder and President of Operation Write Home (formerly known as Cards For Heroes). I'm sure you will enjoy her wonderful creations as much as I do. Sandy is truly an inspiration and a hero to us all. Thank you so much Sandy for making all this possible!!!

Without further ado... head on over to Sandy's Blog, It's A Colourful World, and enjoy the rest of the bloghop!

Thanks for stopping by!

Veteran's Day Memorial

This card was made in loving memory of my husband's grandfather, Bernard Columbus, who passed away February 2, 2008. He served in the US Army Air Force during World War II from November 1942-1945 and was assigned to the Army Post Office in the South Pacific.  Bernard began working for the United Postal Service as a post office clerk in 1941. In 1960, he took the job of rural mail carrier and held that position until he retired in 1980. Bernard was a hero to many including his family and friends. In his honor, I'm sending this card to Operation Write Home to be forwarded to one of the many heroes out there proudly serving our nation.

As for today's card details... the card base is Kraft cardstock layered with a slightly smaller piece of PTI White. I distressed all sides of the patterned paper with Vintage Photo before layering onto PTI White. I then cut a strip of Kraft cardstock and punched both sides using the Fiskars Diamond Edge Punch and layered it with a slightly smaller strip of distressed Real Red Cardstock.

The image was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on PTI White using the In God We Trust stamp set and colored in using Tombow markers. Using my Creative Memories Oval Cutting System I cut out the PTI White and layered it onto a slightly larger oval of distressed Kraft cardstock. For embellishments I added three distressed Real Red stars and some medium silver brads.

Hope you take a few moments to remember a hero in your life!

I've been making more of the Bushel of Blessings card all week to send to Operation Write Home and haven't had a chance to design any new cards so I thought I would blog this card I made from my first shipment of cards to Operation Write Home. Was that ever a mouthful!!!  The image was stamped in Basic Black on paper pierced Whisper White cardstock using the Sketch Flower Trio stamp and colored in using Tombow and Stampin Write Markers. To finish off the card I added a couple Pewter Kaiser Pearls.

Hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Bushel Of Blessings

After each holiday one of the things I do that helps me switch gears and get the creativity flowing for the next holiday is change the table cloth on our kitchen table. My mother-in-law makes the most gorgeous table cloths so it is a special tradition of ours. This past weekend I put away the Halloween table cloth and brought out the Thanksgiving one. The beautiful reds, oranges, and greens in the table cloth inspired me to make this card.

Today's card was created using the back side of the patterned paper I had leftover from the Happy Harmony card. The card base is Always Artichoke layered with a slightly smaller piece of More Mustard cardstock. I punched the edge of a strip of PTI Vintage Cream cardstock using the Martha Stewart Arch Lattice Edge Punch then taped it to the edge of the Soothing Floral patterned paper. I wrapped Offray Ribbon around the patterned paper and taped it on the back side before attaching the patterned paper to the card base. I then took another piece of ribbon and tied a knot on the front.

The image was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on PTI Vintage Cream with the Season Of Thanks stamp set and colored in using Stampin Write Markers and was layered onto a slightly larger piece of Always Artichoke cardstock. To finish off the card I added a couple large Acrylic Jewels.

Hope you have a fantastic day!

P.S. We had 131 trick-or-treaters this year.  The costumes were super cute as always and we had tons of fun!

The Mummy

I think Halloween is a fun time of year! I really enjoy seeing all the costumes the kids dress up in. Last year we ran out of candy at 120 trick-or-treaters. In previous years we've given out bite size candy bars but this year we are upgrading to standard size candy bars for the bigger kids and snack size bags of M&M's for the little ones. This is going to sound outrageous but I have 160 candy bars and 60 bags of M&M's to pass out this year.

As for my Halloween card... I really wanted to use up some of my patterned paper scraps so I made this card to send to our families for Halloween this year. The layout is a Stamping Bella Bellarific Friday Sketch. The card base is Basic Black cardstock layered with Dark Lovely Lilac. Over it I layered pieces of Fright Night Words and Mummy patterned paper. The image was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on Whisper White cardstock using the Booglie Eyes stamp set and was colored in using Watercolor Wonder Crayons and a blender pen.

Using my Deckled Rectangles Nestabilities I cut out the image and layered it onto a slightly larger piece of Basic Black cardstock also cut out using the Deckled Rectangles Nestabilities. The sentiment was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on a piece of Dark Lovely Lilic cardstock and was attached using Black Crushed Velvet Brads.

Hope you have a Spooktacular Halloween!

Dressed To Scare

I came down with a cold last week and had the flu over the weekend so I didn't get very much time in my craft room this past weekend. I did spend a couple hours last night though creating this Halloween card. I was able to get just enough done to send to some close friends of ours. I think I will make a few extra to send to Operation Write Home for next year!

The card base is Basic Black cardstock layered with a slightly smaller piece of Web Flat patterned paper. The shadow layer is Halloween Flat patterned paper layered on a slightly larger piece of Basic Black cardstock.

The image was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on PTI White using the Dressed to Scare stamp and was colored in using Stampin Write Markers. The spider was also stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on PTI White but was cut out and attached over the Black Cobweb Felt Fushion. To finish off the card I added a couple Black Crushed Velvet Brads and a Dark Purple Glimmer Bow.
