Hi everyone! Welcome to the Operation Write Home Veterans Day Bloghop!! If you arrived here from Peggysue's Blog, Roses By My Window, then you are in the right place but if you've just happened along you will want to grab your favorite beverage then head on over to the Homefront Blog so you can start from the beginning!
For those of you who don't already know, Operation Write Home supports our nation's armed forces by sending blank handmade greeting cards for them to write home on as well as cards of gratitude to encourage them. So if you are a papercrafter, stamper or scrapbooker and enjoy making greeting cards check out the tips for cardmakers here and you are on your way!
For today's bloghop Operation Write Home challenged the cardmakers to create an "Anyhero" or Patriotic card (with a message inside for a deployed hero) and a Valentine card. For Veterans Day I made a Patriotic card in memory of my husband's grandfather who served in the US Army Air Force during World War II (to view that card scroll down to my previous post). I made this Patriotic card for the Operation Write Home Veterans Day Bloghop in honor of all the heroes out there proudly serving our nation... Thanks to all of you for your strength and courage in serving and protecting our nation!!!

Card details... the Patriotic card base is Real Red layered with slightly smaller pieces of Ballet Blue then Basic Black cardstock. The flag was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on PTI White using the God Bless America stamp set and colored in using Tombo and Stampin Write Markers. The eagle was also stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on PTI White but was cut out and mounted over the flag to give it the appearance of soaring!!! The sentiment was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on Kraft cardstock and embellished with a small black brad.
Next is the Valentine card I make for the Operation Write Home Veterans Day Bloghop. It is different from my normal style in that I used patterned paper for the main image rather than stamping it. I also couldn't resist using this gold foil glossy cardstock.

Card details... the Valentine card base is Pink Passion layered with a slightly smaller piece of paper pierced gold foil glossy cardstock. Next I attached the strip of patterned paper and the sentiment. The sentiment was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on PTI White cardstock. I rounded the corners using a corner rounder punch. The heart image was cut from a different sheet of Creative Imaginations patterned paper and layered onto a thin piece of cardboard. I rounded the corners and sanded the edges before attaching it to the card base. For embellishments I painted a chipboard flourish with Ashphalt Liquid Acrylic Paint and arranged it on the card nestled under an arrangement of paper flowers. To finish off the card I added a couple small gold brads along the paper strip and one at the center of the flower arrangement.
Well, that's it for me! Hope you've enjoyed my card creations. This is such a heartening venture. Here in Canada, the painting guild I belong to also creates and sends cards for our troops. They range from painted, thru to stamped and embossed cards in every style imaginable and are received with great appreciation. It's such a little thing we can do for our heroes!
