Ships Ahoy

Hi everyone! As is most everyone these days, we are having a hot spell which for us is a week of 90 degree days so I thought this card was sure to cool everyone off! I'm loving the look cheesecloth adds to my cards and added some on this card to look like fish netting. I also added a strip of kraft cardstock I stamped the Happy Birthday sentiment on and finished the ends using a square punch. I'm getting pretty good at lining it up now, LOL!

The image used on today's card is the Ship digital stamp by Digi Doodle Shop.  My card base is black cardstock layered with white, kraft then slash patterned paper.  I tore two strips of matching patterned paper to look like white caps on the waves.

Thanks for stopping by... hope you have a purr-fect day!

2013 Calendar - COVER

Hi everyone! Hope you're having a great week so far, mine has been really busy so I'm really looking forward to the weekend already! I'm popping in to share the cover for my 2013 calendar. The papers are the same as the ones I used on the base so that it coordinates.

I just love these blue and burgundy colors together. The "A Year To Remember!" sentiment was typed on my computer and printed out on white cardstock. To finish the end I used a square punch although it took some practice getting it straight, LOL!

Thanks for stopping by... hope you have a purr-fect day!

Long-Stemmed Posies

Hi everyone!  Happy Saturday!  Today I'm playing along with a fun new sketch challenge I recently discovered, Crafting Life's Pieces.  Here is the sketch that inspired today's card creation.  I flipped the sketch on it's side and used the strip to create a bed of grass for my flowers.  I'm also entering this card in the Wags 'n Whiskers challenge using kraft and the Stamp and Create challenge using bold and bright colors.

To create the lace edge I punched the edges of white cardstock using the Doily Lace Edge Punch then distressed the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  I layered the lace edge on Kraft cardstock distressed and stitched around the edges.  The two layers of grass are punched from Green Galore.

The image used on today's card is the Long-Stemmed Posies Sketch rubber stamp by Hero Arts.  The leaves are colored with copic markers YG23 and YG25 and the flowers Y06 and Y08.  To embellish the card I added a pretty white bow and lots of clear rhinestones.

Thanks for stopping by... hope you have a purr-fect day!

Reel 'Em In Dad

Hi everyone!  Happy Father's Day!  Hope you are able to spend time with all the special men in your life who are father's.  We are spending the day with my father-in-law.

This is the card I'm giving my father-in-law today!  The image used on today's card is from the Reel 'Em In digital stamp set by Doodle Pantry. For added texture I tore the edges of the shadow layer and image. I also added some cheesecloth and lots of twine. I used black chipboard letters to spell "Dad" and used a portion of the Gadget Gears Sizzix Die to embellish the other corner.

Here is a peak at the inside of the card. I finished it to compliment the front of the card and included a personal message for the occassion.  I'm also playing along with the team at the Doodle Pantry using one of my favorite Doodle Pantry images.

Thanks for stopping by... hope you have a purr-fect day!

2013 Calendar - BASE

Hi everyone! I'm back again to share the base I created for my 2013 calendar. It looks really flat and plain but that's what you want so it will slide inside the bent acrylic photo frame. The photo above shows the base inside the photo frame. Oh, it also shows the 1 inch metal rings I'm using to hold all the pages together. I have them taped down on the backside so it looks nice in the photo but once there are pages added they will sit up nicely on their own.

Once I selected the papers I'm using on the cover it was really quick and easy to assemble the base. I wanted the holes to have more support so I'm using the small oval punch on the base, cover and all the calendar pages. Since I'm making all the calendar pages different having a common design element across all the pages will also give them a unified look.

Thanks for stopping by... hope you have a purr-fect day!

CREATIVE DESIGN:
  • Paper: True Black and White Cardstock (Papertrey Ink), Blue Cardstock and Patterned Paper (Creating Keepsakes, Scrappin' Creations Power Pad)
  • Other: Stitching, Small Oval Punch, 1/8" Hold Punch, 1 inch metal rings

Mia Gardening

Hi everyone! I can't believe the weekend is finally here!!! I'm a little slow getting going this morning. My cat Buddy wanted to snuggle on the couch and the next thing I know... I'm out like a light! My husband's birthday was this week but since we both work are going to celebrate today with some shopping (for his birthday present), dinner and a movie.

I didn't get much studying done this week but I'm happy to say I was able to trim and prep a bunch of new stamps I've been hoarding for some time now. The image used on today's card is the Mia Gardening acrylic stamp by Wild Rose Studio. It was really a challenge for me trying to shade the hair so I'm thinking to take the copic coloring classes by Color Me Creative Classroom. If you've taken any of their classes and have some feedback or tips to share, I'd love to hear from you!

I'm entering this card in the Pretty Little Ribbon Shop "lots of layers" challenge.

Thanks for stopping by... hope you have a purr-fect day!

2013 Calendar - FRAME

Hi everyone! I don't actually have a card to share today but rather the start of a project I'm working on. Several years ago I started making calendars for the family although it has been a couple years now since I made the last one. Well, when we got together a couple weeks ago for my mother-in-laws birthday I noticed that she still has the last calendar I made on the counter and is flipping through the months as though it is current. Did I mention that the calendar is from 2010, yep! So I've decided to make her a new calender as a christmas present. I want it to be really detailed like my cards and have planned that if I get a calendar month done every two weeks I'll have the calendar done in time to wrap and put under the christmas tree.

Calendars make a really special gift for the holidays and I thought perhaps some of you would like to make one too so I put together this tutorial on how I prepped the frame and will post my calendar base, cover and months every couple weeks as I finish them to inspire you. I've been scoping out some free digital images and coloring pages to use on the calendar months and will include links to those as well. I created the calendar months (January, February, etc.) in excel so I could size them to fit the frame I chose to use. For my calendar frame I picked up a 6 inch x 4 inch bent acrylic picture frame from the local JoAnn's Craft Store. They also sell these at Michael's and Wal-mart.

Next I cut a 6 inch x 4 inch piece of white cardstock to mark where I wanted my wonderful husband to drill holes for me. I drew a line 1/2 inch down from the top and made a notch at 1 3/4 inch in from each side. Using a 1/8 inch hole punch I punched out the holes and slid the white cardstock (template) into the picture frame and taped it to the frame on the backside so it wouldn't slide around.

This is the picture frame without the white cardstock (template) and the holes drilled out. You will want to hang onto the white cardstock and use it as a template for punching holes in the calendar base, cover and months to make sure all the holes line up. To assemble everything I'm using 1 inch metal rings I picked up at Wal-mart. Sorry, I didn't think to include them in these photos but will include them when I take photos of the calendar base and cover. That's it for today... be sure to check back in a couple weeks to see the calendar base I'm working on.

Thanks for stopping by... hope you have a purr-fect day!

Wildlife Reserve

Hi everyone! It's that time of year again... the family is gearing up for a HUGE garage sale next weekend so we've been combing the house to see what to get rid of this year. We've already hauled one truck load to my in-laws and it doesn't seem like anything has left the house, funny how that works! There's a bunch of birthdays coming up in the family next month so I'm also working on getting some cards ready to go. This is a birthday card I made for one of the guys in the family.

The image used on today's card is from the Wildlife Reserve rubber stamp set by Stampin' Up.  My husband really likes this set so every now and then I make a bear card to get some use out of it.  The other animal images in the set are very small so I never know what to do with them.

I'm entering this card in the following challenges:
